Was wondering if anyone has any insight into the code requirements for this application. We are considering installing new 8' strip light fixtures on the underside of a suspended ceiling in a school. We were considering using those "bang-on" caddy clips with the 1/4" threaded hole, attached to the grid, and attach the fixture to those using 1/4" bolts.
The fixture would definitely be securely fastened to the grid. Do you think this fixture also need to be independently secured to the building structure with ceiling wire like a normal troffer?

The NEC doesn?t say troffer's need to be supported independently of the ceiling framing members, there for why would you need to support your strip fixtures independently. 410.36 Means of Support. (B) Suspended Ceilings. Framing members of suspended ceiling systems used to support luminaires shall be securely fastened to each other and shall be securely attached to the building structure at appropriate intervals. Luminaires shall be securely fastened to the ceiling framing member by mechanical means such as bolts, screws, or rivets. Listed clips identified for use with the type of ceiling framing member(s) and luminaire(s) shall also be permitted.

Most places require this as per the building code.
In MA it is an amendment to the NEC.
