I am installing an 800 amp EZ stack meter tap box (no breaker) with (3) 200 amp meters. Single Phase 120/240. There is no need for a main breaker because i only have (3) 200 amp breakers with (3) meters. I would like to feed this 800 amp Tap box with (3) 4/0 SEU aluminum cables. The 4/0 SEU is only rated for 180 amps each for a total of 540 amps. This 540 amps is enough to power the load for (3) apartments. My question is does my SEU need to meet the full 800 amps per 240.4C or 240.6A?
The article only refers to Overcurrent devices.

The requirement is that the conductors feeding the tap box meet the calculated load.

Any time you have multiple service disconnecting means supplied by a common conductor that supply conductor only needs to have an ampacity that covers the calculated load.

If you had same load but a single 800 amp main involved - that would require 800 amp conductor because you have a single service disconnect in that case.

Makes sense right?:)
