Hello Everyone, I have recently asked by my project manager if a 800A panel was allowed in a hallway or if it needed to be in an electric equipment room. The panel is an 800A i-line 120/208 3phase 4 wire. I have looked through the NEC and didn't find anything besides the working clearances in 110-26. Please help!

If as you mention the requirements of 110.26 are met and it does not encroach on any other Building or Life Safety Code clearances, it is fine.

If your hallway is actually a rated corridor, you would have to maintain the protection at the panel. This can be done by a couple of different ways. Check your plans & w/ the building inspector. Good luck

If there is a 1 hour rated corridor, the building code only allows 100 sq. in. opening in 100 sq. ft. So typically, there is a framed & fully sheetrocked opening that the panel fits into. That way the 1 hour assembly is carried around the panel & is not compromised

Thanks

Thanks

Hey guys thanks for your help so far, but is there a section in the NEC that specifically tells you when you need an electric room?

no the panel is recessed in the wall, and it meets all 110-26 requirements, so I guess I'm good. Thanks to everyone who responded!

if it is a rated wall it could be an issue, better check with the building inspector, all penetrations must maintain the rating of the assembly,
