I don't do much underground, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience using the new 811 number.

How well does it work? Is it any easier/harder to use?

Basically, calling 811 will merely route your call through an additional place --- where they then forward your call to the appropriate calling center. Easier to remember I figure <shrug>.

I prefer to submit our locate requests online, where I don't have to answer the same questions over and over (many of those redundant fields are already filled in). I just submitted one right before coming here and reading this thread. :grin:

However, this site only serves Delaware, Maryland, and DC.

Don't know if Virginia has implemented an online area for this as of yet, it's probably only a matter of time.

I used them the other day, one call they took down my info, address of location,gave me a dig number and told me by what date and time the location would be done by
