90 degree connectors

I think you mean a 90 degree connector wit flexible metallic conduit? You have to be able to access the connector after final install. An mc connector 90 degree on the other hand you do not as you are not going to pull out the conductors and try to pull in new ones.
 
What's the connector for?

One often hears that you 'can't do that,' but the claim is only partly true.

The NEC requires such connectors on flexible conduit to remain accessible. There is no such requirement for MC or AC connectors. After all, if you're using a cable, you're not pulling wires. For a raceway, you are.
