Had a bad storm here a few weeks ago! Tree in front yard fell on high voltage lines interrupting power to about 600 homes! Late at night, so I called 911! Operator would relay message to proper authorities. Finally went to sleep around 3am! Awakened at 5;45am to a loud noise like several shotguns going off! Set on front porch and observed high voltage wires sparking, trying to energize! Called Power Company, got a recording! Left message not to energize high voltage lines on my street...wires down! Well, its good daylight now...spectators are coming out in the groves....thought maybe the wife had called the neighbors saying I was running around the yard naked! One elderly couple even brought there aluminum lounge chairs and set down in my front yard, not 15 feet from the wires! About 20 spectators showed up, so I hollared from my porch for them to get away! Not 10 minutes later, the power company must have tried to energize the wires....all my spectators took off like a bat out of -ell! Power company showed up about an hour later! No 911 call...got the message I left on the answering machine! Took about 6 hours to restore power...
Hope there is not a next time, this time was more than enough for me! I had to stand guard, advising people to leave the area...in the rain even! People just don't respect the power of electricity....especially thousands of volts!!
