A/C window units show the ampage as 208/240vt. Does that mean these units could run on 3 phase as well as single phase?

Two hots from a three phase system is still considered single phase.

Many apartment buildings are powered with three phase, but each unit is only given two of those phases, so that is a situation in which the AC unit you are talking about would work.

If they are three phase units then they would need to be supplied with a three phase supply.

They likely are single phase units though, but can be connected to single or three phase systems with either 208 or 240 nominal volts available.

It's just showing you how much current it draws at the two voltages....will work on either. If it's a window unit, it isn't 3 Phase. Some services are single phase 120/208 because they only use two out of three phases and a neutral. Takes a special Kwh meter. Mostly found in apartment complexes.

It would state 3 phase if it were. You can have 240V or 208 V and still be single phase. Never saw a 3 phase window unit but I have no doubt there may be some .
