A great money maker!!

Found out we have termites. Called a couple of companies to get quotes on treating the house. Corky's gives us quote for tenting the house, about $1,900. Here is the money maker!
You can purchase Tile insurance through us for an additional $375.00???????? Ummm, tile insurance, what do you mean? While tenting your house, if we break some of the tiles on the roof, the insurance will cover it. So let me get this straight, you as the contractor tenting the house break some tiles , and I didn't buy your insurance you will not fix it. CORRECT!! I begin to think, how many of our customers would go for such a scheme?
Example:
I'm installing your ceiling fan for $250.00. While installing the fan I just happen to drop it and break all the glass globes.. OOOOPPPPSS, Im sorry about that, but, you didn't purchase the additional $69 ceiling fan breaking insurance, therefore im not responsible to replace it......
What a great idea.. Can some one try it and let me know how it works...:D

why does something not sound right about this? if I wire your house, and it burns down, can i refuse my insurance covering it if you didn't pay me extra for it? any business is supposed to carry liability insurance to cover things like this. i'm no expert, but it sounds highly illegal.

My hunch is that Corky's is based in the San Diego area.
One of the pleasures of living here is listening to his corny radio ads with singing and lyrics by an outrageous garage band.

I have no opinion on the dubiousnessity of charging extra insurance but my house was once tented and the crews they hired were rather reckless. Antenna in the way? No problemo. Pull it down. It's screwed in place? Pull harder.
See my previous comment about people who don't understand the concept of screws and screwdrivers and the arcane, obtuse concept that if you spin the screw counter-clockwise, it will come out without damage. One does not need a hammer to remove it.
So yes, they would probably like to have $375 to cover their likely damage.

Chances are even with his insurance his price is low.And if you buy it i bet none get broke.Be sure to see how warranty reads on how long no termites and check how long in buisness.

How does this relate to the electrical industry and how can this be a permitted post on an NEC based forum?

I agree completely!

It should be in the Contracting and Estimating forum. ;)

This seems like a real conflict of interest.

You get the insurance they are careful and do not damage anything.

If you don't get the insurance they take your house out back and bang it up a little.

IMO you should find another exterminator.

Well, I am lucky I live in Tucson. I can do my own termites extermination. I treated the ground in 1993 and installed termite detectors. In 1999 I found a little infestation on the detectors, treated it and not more. We are here 15 years later and not termites. Those companies are crooks and destroy the properties with their drilling. Came to Tucson and buy the treatment.

See this thread did have something in common with the electrical trade......You learn something everyday!

Except the two posters have different termites. The OP has "drywoods", which require tenting. The other has "subterranian" termites, which are treated with chemical barriers in the ground and poison.

Let's say you buy the 'insurance', and something gets broken.

Lemme guess......They'll tell you, "Well, I just happen to know a guy who can do a great job fixing you up here....."
