a lightbulb the size of a Tic Tac

Interesting. We can only wait and see where it goes, there is another electodeless lamp, the induction. Its been installed for 10+ years but hardly any electricians have heard of it.

That is cool. I almost stopped before the commercial was over. But it was worth the wait.

All this saving energy worried me at first. With all the green technologys I thought there would be less need for electricians. But when I seen how much work and cables go in to a wind mill and sun panels. Wheww, that's a lot more work for us. Which is a good thing.

I can see some cities changing out lights just to install ones that save energy. In fact, we have already done that in one of our local colleges. with in door lights.

I thought that was awesome. I look to see if they were a public company but it does not appear to be. Whats the negative with this? Are there any? If not then why wouldnt that technology simply replace the existing. The Pros.... Better quality light, more light for less energy, probably has very ling life. Whats the negative? It does not seem to be expensive to produce.

It has been my thoughts for years that they could at least make better light bulbs. But It would be a light bulb factory that made them. Then they would not sell but one bulb for each light.
Oh I know they have to figure out a way to make it burn out, dang.:-?

One time I rented a lift installed some lights way up high. Got done took, the lift back. One bulb only lasted a day. The owner told me. He came in the next morning turned them on and seen that familiar flash when it burned out.

Oh it will be expensive for sure. Going green is never cheap at first. You have to wait a while and in that while they will think of a way to make it burn "Less"

Any of you guys done much work with the electrodeless lamps?

I was posed some questions regarding use of induction lighting in a new facility (a pool / sports complex I believe) Maybe I should sell em on the Tic-tacs, then mark up a box of mint-flavored ones by 100,000%

"Ceravision and Luxim are developing lamps with a smaller bulb filled with argon and a mixture of metal halides. The bulb is energized through a dielectric waveguide with radio frequencies from a solid-state source, greatly increasing its reliability. Because there are no parts that degrade over time, the lifespan may be decades long."

It's agreed that solid-state is an improvement over a magnetron or similar tech, but "no parts that degrade over time" seems a bit optomistic. Even LEDs burn out eventually...
