Now that I've received a reply; here's what was on my mind.

517.34 list loads for the Equipment branch of an EES. Autoclaves are listed under (B)Equipment for Delayed Automatic or manual Connection, (6) and reads "Minimal electrically heated autoclaving equipment shall be permitted to be arranged for either ..."

My question is, what is meant by "minimal electrically heated"

i.e. what is the added meaning of those three words. if you eliminated them it would read that "Autoclaving equipment shall be permitted to be arranged for ...

What does this qualifier do to the intent of the sentence?

Thanks,

Mike

To me it means that the EES system should not supply all of the hospital autoclaves, just enough to support emergency operations needs.

Keep in mind that this section applies only to electrically heated autoclaves. If they're heated by a steam boiler, it shouldn't be an issue at all from a generator loading standpoint.

Bottom line is that any piece of equipment can be connected to the equipment branch if it's deemed necessary by the hospital per 517.34(B)(8). Why they bother to list a bunch of other equipment individually is a mystery. Maybe they get paid by the word.
