Tough one yesterday.
Installing a new cieling light in an area that didn't have one.
Taking power from a nearby outlet.
No access to top to drill down, had a second floor.
Ceramic title all the way up the wall that meets a 6 inch piece of crown molding that runs all the way around the apartment.
Molding glued on tight, wouldn't budge.
Drilled up with a long extention bit from switch box height.
made hole in ceiling a close to molding discovering xtra wood in my way that I had to cut out.

Had a hard time reaching snake.

A better way for next time?

Sounds like classic remodel wiring problems, to me.

One can't estimate for what one can't see. The hidden wood adds time. . . if you gave a fixed bid with no allowance for surprises beyond your control, then "the better way" is to rework the agreement between you and the client.

Couldn't have said it better!

Sounds like you (OP) are newbie to this! Welcome to residential remodel work!

To answer your questions:

1. It was an outside wall.
2. I didn't think about upstairs to down (good idea)
3. I am a newbie to residental work.

Thanks for the suggestions.
