I agree with Chris. I always wondered why we had to remove abandoned communication wires and fire alarm wires but not line voltage stuff.

There is actually one code section that requires abandoned supply circuits to be removed but it is for information technology rooms only (See 645.5(F)&(G))

Maybe because the code making panels for the line voltage stuff understand that abandoned cables are not really a hazard.

Why remove it, just disconnect from the feed & be done with it. Leave it in

place for future needs.

I have removed 'abandoned line voltage cabling ' in several renovations
because the inspector requested it.
He said it was a 'hazard' to the 'next man'. :?
Possibly could be confusing to the 'next man'.
I will do it so that I don't overfill a junction box. :)

There is a requirement to pull power conductors out of walker duct type raceways.

ARTICLE 390
Underfloor Raceways
390.8 Discontinued Outlets. When an outlet is abandoned,
discontinued, or removed, the sections of circuit conductors
supplying the outlet shall be removed from the raceway. No
splices or reinsulated conductors, such as would be the case
with abandoned outlets on loop wiring, shall be allowed in
raceways.

I think there is one for cellular floors as well.
