Abandoned Cable

Two questions regarding abandoned cable provisions (for communications cable, optical fiber, coaxial, network-powered broadband communications cable) of NEC 2005:
1. With one exception (see below) NEC 2005 does not appear to alter the abandoned cable provisions of NEC 2002. Am I correct?
2. NEC 2005 appears to delete section 830.55(B) of NEC 2002, which provided for removal of Network-Powered Broadband Communications Cable." As a result, Article 830 has a definition for "Abandoned Network-Powered Broadband Communications Cable", but no provisions for cable removal. Am I correct, and do you know why Section 830.55(B) was removed?

Re: Abandoned Cable

As a follow-up to my prior question, it seems that provisions of NEC 2002 which limited the removal of abandoned cable to the "accessible portion" have been deleted. Am I correct, and can anyone tell me why?

Re: Abandoned Cable

Eric,
Look at 830.3(A) and also the xxx.3(A) sections of the other low voltage articles in the 2005 code. They all require the "accessible portion of abandoned" cables be removed.

Re: Abandoned Cable

What exactly is the differance between abandoned and not being used at the presant time ? I have many outlets that have not been used in years

They are being used. They are used to make your house compliant with wall spacing rules in the codebook. :)
