I was wondering if I could get some advice. I have a contractor who is framing in a door at a single-family home. There appears to be a receptacle in his way that he would like to have removed. The receptacle is fed from above where there is a vaulted ceiling, so I can't pull it into the attic. I don't believe the nm cable is long enough to relocate it. I can kill it from its source, but what can I do with the cable. I don't like to do it, but can I put the dead nm cable in junction box and bury it in a wall?
What's the best way to handle this?

Unhook it at the source and pull the wire out of the box. Ditto at the business end. For future reference, label both ends DEAD CABLE, and referencing where the other end is.
Uh, you're -sure- that there aren't any other outlets half-way down the cable, aren't you?

And they have no interest in an outlet above the door (that probably will never be used)? If this is a door to the outside, putting a weather-protected outlet over the door would be great for holiday lights!

There is no code for abandoned power cable/conductors, so they can be left in walls, attics, etc. Only code in that regards is for communication cable and the like.

Use an in-wall rated splice to extend the Romex to a useful location and install a new receptacle.

If there is nothing else connected to the NM I would be inclined to just disconnect it at both ends and tape it off with a note that it is no longer used. Just leave the ends in the stud bays.

Will this leave them with too few outlets for the length of the wall? Would it be better to install an in-wall rated connector and install any code required receptacles?
