Do you know a code section I can use to require a contractor to remove the abandoned service after he upgrade the service. Thank you, Ram

Re: abandoned conduits

The NEC version of 110.12 is pretty weak, but that is the only code I know of that could address this.

The Chicago version of 110.12 requires abandoned electrical equipment to be removed.

It seems to me, I have in the past had the poco request that the old service riser and meter be removed so as not to have two on the same house.
It's a fuzzy memory at best.

In many locations, demo work on electrical equipment and systems, does not require a licensed electrical contractor.

Unless the work was in writing on the original contract, you may as well hire someone to remove the old service.

Re: abandoned conduits

Thank you both for your help. 110.12 is kind of weak. I hope someone out there has a stronger code section. Thank you for your time.
