I thought I recalled a requirement for abandoned wiring to be removed but cant find the reference. Is that only for communications cable or is other abandoned wiring required to be removed. ?

I used to not really bother with removing all K+T wiring when I rewired a house, after I disconnected the old circuits, but copper scrap prices now have me snip and toss at the scuttle hole as I go along. I get manly sized bags of scrap out of some jobs..

Nice list but it's hard to find them all, you missed at least a couple for power conductors, 372.13, 374.7

Those deal with the outlets as well.

To stay on topic, I posted the code references that deal strictly with abaondoned conductors.
