Will someone point me to the section of the code that states that it must be removed or labeled. :huh:

What type of wiring?

There is no over all section that requires abandoned wiring methods to be removed.

There are numerous "Low Voltage" sections that require abandoned cables to either be removed or tagged for future use.

For example here is what 800.25 says about abandoned communications cables.

800.25 Abandoned Cables. The accessible portion of abandoned
communications cables shall be removed. Where cables
are identified for future use with a tag, the tag shall be of
sufficient durability to withstand the environment involved.

Aside from communication, 800.25 640,645,760,770,820 there is line voltage outlets/ conductors requiring removal under 372.13, 374.7, and 390.7
