That is aimed at things like central vacuum units, garage door openers, and air compressors where the manufacturer uses some vastly inflated "peak" horsepower or some other such nonsense for marketing purposes. The rule requires you to use the current that is a real world number. Using the horsepower would result in oversized conductors and OCPDs.

Would you mind give me a numeric example of those inflated peak values? in order to understand how to do the calculations in those cases?
