I was told by a peer that I could not mount 480v stanchion-mounted fixtures on a catwalk in an industrial setting, and I should transform them to 277v or below. He says it is a code violation???

I cannot find anything that restricts my proposed mounting height of 8-feet off the catwalk floor. These are industrial fixtures with globe and guard.

Is there a code restriction for access or mounting height? Any suggestions? Or am I free to use 480v halide fixtures?

Are these these 480V as in 277V L-G and 480V L-L or 480V L-G and 480V L-L. Makes a difference.

Then your co-worker is incorrect. It is easy to misinterpret this section, I did for years.

You would be under (C) and not (D).
