The question I have has to do with providing power for an overhead projector. In many instances the overhead projector is permanently mounted in the ceiling. The question is - can you put the duplex receptacle that powers the projector up above the accessible ceiling, or does the receptacle need to be flush mounted in the ceiling tile?

Is there a specific code NEC article that says it cannot be mounted above the ceiling or is it up to the AHJ?

Any help would be appreciated

Re: Above Ceiling Receptacles

The code does not restrict where the receptacle outlet can be placed, however are you going to have to run the attachment cord and plug through the ceilng to plug it in? If so, then you have violated 400.8(2)(5)
