Above ceiling receptacles

I am sure you are not allowed to install receptacles above drop ceilings except for required HVAC service outlets, but where does the NEC state it. I cannot find it. Are there any exceptions allowing it? Thanks

You can install receptacle outlets above grid all day long one just cant install cords above grid 400.8 as in cord plug condensate pumps as an example.

You can not have a cord and plug in cieling.
I am not sure it specifically says no outlets above cielings.
It just assumes if you have an outlet some thing will be plugged in to it.

You might have a single outlet for a remote controll transformer. with no wires. That might be an exception. Not sure, though

As Greg mentioned, there is no prohibition against the installation of receptacles in/above drop ceilings.

Remember that one may need to plug in a power tool or drop light or other equipment while working up in the drop ceiling.
