do you have to put a ground ring around a above ground pool 4ft deep also are twist lock plugs required to hook up the pool pump the 2008 code is in force in our area cite articles which apply

The equipotential bonding is require for pools with a depth of more than 42". Once the pool is deeper than 42" it is wired the same as an inground pool. That is in definitions of art 680.

Article 680.21 gives the info on motors. No twist lock is called for. The cord for the motor cannot be longer than 3' and must terminate in a grounding type attachment plug

680,22 Also gives you information on water-pump motor Rec. in that section unless the pump is at least 10 ft. away you would need a Rec. with a locking configuration

Have a above ground to do also, going though the nec 2014 as a refresher pools are not something I do often. This old thread is what I've been looking for but where is "the requirement for locking configuration" could have sworn it was in past code cycles?

Needs to be at least 10' away or meet the three requirements for not less than 6' away.

680.22(A)(2) Circulation and Sanitation System, Location. Receptacles that provide power for water-pump motors or for
other loads directly related to the circulation and sanitation system shall be located at least 3.0 m (10 ft) from the inside
walls of the pool, or not less than 1.83 m (6 ft) from the inside walls of the pool if they meet all of the following conditions:
(1) Consist of single receptacles
(2) Are of the grounding type
(3) Have GFCI protection
