we are revamping an existing store building and the inspector told us we had to remove all the old bx/ac cable . he said something about a moisture problem and wanted us to replace the cable with mc the ceiling is used for return air i think art300.22/c1 allows ac cable am i right?

Perhaps the "moisture problem" is previous damage that the inspector knows to have occured to the AC cable in that store? Type AC cable is permitted in plenum ceilings.

You are correct, AC is allowed in a plenum. It isn't allowed in a damp or wet location. What kind of moisture problem is the inspector referring to?

I thought that the type of wiring method was dry, damp, wet locations or hazardouslocations. When did within a dropped ceiling become anything other than a dry location.Unless the dropped ceiling was outside the boundries of the actual building unit ?????

I would think that there were other problems that needed to be addressed it you were having moisture problems above a dropped ceiling.

What did he suggest that you run up there?
