There is no 'proper' termination of the bonding strip.

Cut it off flush, back wrap it, what ever you want to do. :cool:

Bob is correct. The metal bonding strip is required to be in contact with the outer metallic jacket of the cable and is not required to be terminated in any specific way. Within type AC cable, the bonding strip allows the use of the outer jacket as a listed grounding conductor.

You will not find an NEC section that requires you to back wrap it.

Of course you can if you want to, it is a nice redhead holder. :)

NEMA has a 'paper' (the name of it slips my mind) of how to terminate the bonding conductor for MC and AC cable.
There is no NEC requirement - the inspector who is asking this, shows his ignorance and misconception of the purpose for the bonding conductor in the AC cable.
