I am the specifying engineer on a new light industrial facility in the early design stage. I am wondering what is typical wiring practices for these type of facilities, esp with regard to conduit vs AC/MC cable.
The Owner is open to using AC/MC cable in cable tray as feeders if allowed by code. I am not sure what AHJs typically consider "exposed to physical damage". I assume because of forklifts conduit would be required for any surface raceway below, say, 12 feet. Beyond forklifts this facility will not have a lot of moving parts, so I assume anything up near the lights is safe.
I don't want to go too far down this road if it is not common practice in the industry - the Owner is not that desparate to save money, I am just trying to help him where it makes sense. Your comments are appreciated.
