AC panels as raceways

I can't find where it would discuss this as a possibility but is it possible to run the load side of a gfi mounted on the side of panel, and some travellers for a 3 way switch through the panel to get to the loads? It is an industrial environment so it would be #12 single conductors in EMT to get around building. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: AC panels as raceways

I seem to recall something in the NEC that didn't allow GFCI protected conductors in the same conduit with non-GFCI conductors. I'm betting it was in Article 680 and dealt with swimming pool lights. So I guess that wouldn't apply unless you guys have a swimming pool in the middle of your factory :D

Re: AC panels as raceways

The Code doesn't require GFCI protected conductors to be kept separate from no-GFCI protected conductors. In the situation you described. However, my concern would be over crowding of the wiring space reserved for conductors connected to the overcurrent devices. See Section 312.8 which places some restrictions on the use of the enclosure as a raceway or gutter.

Re: AC panels as raceways

thanks, guys, I did find it. It's a Square D QO 200AMP 40SPACE with less than half the panel being used. It's an odd layout, and going back through the panel is really useful. Just wanted the reference allowing it as a possibility. Thanks again.
