PI Index

I have never heard of performing a Polarization Index test on MV cables. Usually MV cable is High-Potential tested to verify the insulation integrety where the DC test voltage is applied over time and the leakage current (micro amps) is recorded as the voltage is stepped up over a fixed time and a curve is plotted. However, if you perform a PI test, the results will vary depending on the cable length, insulation type, temperature, humidity, etc.
I would contact the cable manufacturer. Maybe the factory tests they conduct will shed some light on what kind of results you should expect.
I have used this tests on power transformers, motors, generators but not cable. Has anyone else heard of this :-?
