I'm working on a project where I don't see any way around digging under the secondary compartment of a pad mounted transformer to install new conduit. I know this is to be avoided for fairly obvious reasons but in instances such as this, what can the contractor do assure a successful outcome and a stable condition underneath the unit?

When necessary, once every couple of years or so, we came in the high side (34.5 kv) or low side (480 usually) of existing, in-service padmount transformers above grade. Always with RMC. Never had an issue and some of these installations have 30+ years of service on them. One of the times when it was good to be the utility and make your own decisions, as long as they were safe.
