Multifamily dwellings building, fire-resitive construction, 12 stories in height, all wired in NMB. Meets code. Kinda surprising, but not really.
Any comments?

But yet if you look at 334.12 it says NM is not permitted in any dwelling or structure not specifically permitted in 334.10(1)(2)&(3) and these provisions only speak of type 3, 4 & 5 construction. Fire-resistive construction is Type 1 and 2. So this seems to say NM is not permitted in Type 1 and 2 construction.
So taken in this context, my quote above is wrong. Doesn't meet code.

So I guess I don't know whether I'm coming or going. Now I tend to believe it's not permitted.:-?

Are you certain the building isn't PERMITTED to be other than Type 1 or 2?

For example, lets say the provisions of Chapter 5 and 3 of the IBC permit the building to be of Type 3, however the designer chooses to build the structure with Type 1 or 2 materials.

NM would still be permitted where not restircted by 334.12 of the NEC.

Annex E is not too helpfull unless your state has specifically adopted the NFPA 220 and usues that reference for determining construction type verses Chapter 6 of the IBC...

According to Annex E, the maximum stories is 4 for type 3 multifamily dwellings.
