I bought a property that had two 120 v circuits with a neutral run from the panel in the house out to a barn. They ran #10 direct burial cable out about 500 ft which of course is giving me an unacceptable voltage drop. I had the thought of connecting the two circuits to a two pole breaker and making that the primary feed to a 240/120v transformer. With the voltage drop, I expect to get around 220 VAC at 20 amps. My question is what would be the correct transformer to get and how would I create a local neutral? Would I drive a ground rod at the barn to do this?

Forum rules do not allow assistance to DIYers, even though you are a controls engineer. Wiring a transformer is not a DIY project.
