Adding equipment bonding terminal bars

I know this has been touched on before but the thread I found included some other issues.

So the question is: can additional equipment bonding terminal bars be added to a panel using the metal of the enclosure as the bonding path? That is the additional terminal bars are not directly connected to the main terminal bar.

If this is prohibited, please provide the code citation.

It is a common practice.

It is not clear to me that it is actually permitted.

However, it is also a common practice to bond two enclosures together with some kind of metal conduit using just double locknuts on both ends. Is that permitted?

I think some things just are that maybe in a very legalistic way should not be.
