Hey there,
rather simple question but unfamiliar in these systems.
I'm wondering if it is possible to add a key interlock to an existing 2500A, 480Y/277V switchgear for a roll up gen.

If so, what other provisions would be needed to accommodate the roll up gen?

Thank you

It is very likely that you would be able to add the key interlock to your existing switchgear. As for the other provisions, it depends on if you need the generator to automatically start and run or if you are going to connect the generator and manually start it. Either way, you should make your life easier and spec a prefabricated connection box for your design. Trystar and many other manufacturers make something that will work well for what you are designing.

Thank you, what is the benefit (and cons) to a prefabricated cam lock connection box?

There aren't really any cons unless you think you can Frankenstein something together for less cost. The benefit is a much cleaner installation with everything you want in a single enclosure. Don't reinvent the wheel here. Buy the product that is made to do exactly what you are trying to do.

The key interlock systems I have used were by Kirk Key, and were ordered with a new MCC. Kirk key may be able to sell you a retrofit kit for your application

Kirk Key will sell the lock assembly, but it would be up to the OP to determine how it would be mounted and what length the 'locking bolt' would need to be. I would get a service shop involved, they have likely done this before.

I agree on having a service/panel shop do the installation, this may maintain the UL listing.
