Addition to Existing Building - Service is in Existing Building - Is a UFER required for the addition?

An addition is proposed to an existing building, and the existing service is in the existing building. Are we still required to provide a concrete-encased electrode in the footing of the new addition? If so, how is the UFER connected to the existing service?

Thanks

If a CEE doesn't exist the NEC doesn't require one to be created.

Since this is an addition any new electrode would need to be tied to the existing building GES. A CEE is only require where there is 20' or more of 1/2" or larger rebar in the footing in contact with the earth. If there is an existing CEE for the existing building another one for the addition is not required.
