I hate when I come back to a job that has been roughed-in and ADT has been there and ran their Low-Voltage alarm wires through my line voltage holes. My circuit feeds in the basement have ADT's wires strung through my holes like spagetti. Other than the fact that I can not stand it, is there anything wrong with doing this? Are there any code violations, harmonics, or just plain out low or line voltage interference. Thank you.

Re: ADT and their bonehead installation policy

Plain and simple. You can either cut their wires or have one of their installation techs come down and re-run their cables and make their own holes. If they're savvy to what the potential problems can be they'll come back to re-route. Otherwise, tell them you'll be cutting their cables and they'll send someone out right away. They're wise to this in my area and the inspectors will not allow LV and line voltage to be run inside the same holes, not to mention that they'll end up having induction and noise problems with their gear when run (parallel) and in close proximity to line voltage wiring.

I don't know about cutting their wires. Do contractors "own" the holes they make? It's definately rude and cutting their cables would sure feel good.

Is it just a matter of edicate or is there something more substancial that can be pointed to?

Re: ADT and their bonehead installation policy

I have seen jobs done by ADT, where the wiring in the attic looked like chothes lines. I was told that the rough wiring is subbed out & they get paid by the job, the faster it is done the more money they make. The AHJ should be required to inspect their work to make sure it is done in a workmanship like manner.

Our inspectors will fail an electrical installation if the LV crew comes in right behind us and uses our holes. Why not bore thier own holes
