Anybody know anything about "Advanced wiring and cabling networks". The article that I read, said this system will enable owners to add, reconfigure and accommodate more electronic systems and products from security cameras to iPod docks, without extensive rewiring. Further it states that this network "future proofs" a home or building for any new low voltage and cable-enabled consumer technologies. As I understand it, It makes a low voltage system of all home runs from a central panel so that in the future you can reconfigure which wires serve what outlets and add or subtract capacity as needed. I am trying to find out what this is about. Is this really a new special way of doing things?

If you mean not daisy-chaining outlet to outlet like we do power receptacles, no, that's nothing new at all.

The only genuine future-proofing is conduit, so new cabling methods may be installed as they come out.

I think they are talking about structured wiring. (1) Cat 5e and (1) RG6 to each data/tv location. Then all home runs back to main hub. Can you interconnect different devices like this? What about speaker wire?

The most popular ones I've seen have two of each, but it can be gotten in many combinations, even including fiber.

I firmly believe in all home runs. There are amplified audio controls that work over UTP, but I haven't used them.

I don't believe in the one-cable-fits-all LV installation. I like to design a system and wire each room according to its needs and use.

I don't even believe that every LV system (phone, networking, CATV, etc.) should terminate in a single location/wall plate in every room.

Speakers are different, because some systems have a central hub, some are independent in each room, and some are a mixture.

I lived in a house a couple of years ago that had a system similar to what your talking about. Once we got all the bugs out it was nice and convenient for almost anything you wanted to do each room had a connection for a computer, a telephone, cable and intercom all in one and easy to deal with. I did think it was overkill to have it in the bathroom too but that's another story.
