Can i have your opinion on this ? You do a residental job, on there panel is another contractors advertising sticker. What do you do? Put yours over it ? Next to it ? Or not leave yours at all?

Usually don't pay much attention to them. Although a remodel/addition I am doing right now has previous, probably original, electrician's hand written name and number on the panel. I had to call my boss because it is one of his best friends. I thought it was kinda ironic. We put labels on our generators, but that is about it.

I don't really use stickers, but mostly because I havn't found any that suit me yet. I like the old-school stickers. They were really classy. I took a picture of one example that I'd like to copy somewhat:

Mr. Electric sticker....You might want to think about where you put your stickers.
I'm not so sure I agree with that.

We know that looks like crap, but does the consumer? I see Mr. or Mrs. Homeowner looking at that stuff and thinking, "Boy, that looks really complicated. I'd better call these here people on this sticker."

I worked for a mechanical contractor once upon a time, and us service guys were encouraged to put our sticker on every dog-gone thing in the building we could possibly service. If I worked in a restaurant, I could use a half a roll of stickers. I went through a couple rolls a month. Whatever it takes to keep the phone ringing.

Funny thing... I know the first three numbers of what used to be "Central Office 4", so I dialed that number to see if the guy was still alive or whatever. I got an answering machine, and the old woman's voice said, "You have reached Donna Shetter...", which I assume is his wife. I should stop by someday and see what happened to him. Maybe she's got some old electrical stuff of his I can look at? Other than seeing his stickers on stuff I tear out, I don't know anything about him or his company. My inspector is in his 80's, so I bet he would. Matter of fact, I asked him one time, and he said the guy went by the nick-name "Hubie".

Those old phone numbers still work? How does that translate into the modern exchange?

You just sorta gotta know the area. In my case, all the CO's for the particular town on that sticker got a "26", so central office 4 is now 264.

If you find an old phone number that says something like "Tumbleweed 78345", then you just gotta know what the first two numbers are that are now used in place of "tumbleweed" in my example. It might be something like 457-8345, for instance.

I see, thanks for the info. I'll add it to the "Learned something new today" category. :)
