Advertising?

Hey Business Owners
How much do you spend a month on print advertising?
Do you feel you get your moneys worth?

I think I'm spending just a little over $200/month on weekly local papers & its getting me into the yards of the homes in the good neighborhoods.
In the long run its worth it....

I tried advertising in the local pappers a year back I had a business card style/size ad in the the service directory got a few calls but did not make my money back .
I think it cost me around $300.00 a month to be listed in the entire Denver metro area.I ran the ad for a whole year.
know that I am established I may try local paper again

I am currentlly subscribed to Best contractors.com
they are here in denver & MN. they are a online company. where homeowners cna go to find any type of service pro.
it costs me $120.00 a month a I do ok with them.

77401, we used to be in the Feist but mostly what it got us was house calls. We hardly do these calls. We mostly do small to medium commercial and industrial projects. It ran about $1500 a year back then, when we wanted to renew they told me it was going to be more. I told them it should be cheaper because I was a repeat customer. They did not agree, I declined.

Our best advertisement is putting our logo on the side of a large semit trailer or storage module. I gotta run off to work. Have a great day !

remember, your cheapest and most effective methode of advertising is your reputation. and that comes with customer service. i had my company name installed on my first service van, it cost about $800.00. i never found or knew of a job i got from the name on my van. that was the last advertising i ever paid for-----25 years in business -- through good times and bad --- never ran out of work......................

I don't advertise except for the vans being lettered. I generally work for contractors, and do service work for customers we've worked for in the past. Actually got rid of yellow page ad a few years ago, as it became expensive to just refer calls to others. Every year I'd say I'm gonna do more service work, so I'll keep the ad, but just couldn't get to it. I'm still saying that, but got rid of the ad.

Incidently, I do get a lot of calls from people seeing the vans.

I get plenty of calls from my van lettering and only "advertise" on my church bullitin. I get calls from that as well. There is a service here in Indy called Angies list where people subscribe and do write ups on contractors. I pay nothing and have had dozens of people call me because of my ratings ALL A's! Word of mouth and just doing a good job has grown my business 200% in the last two years. I got started by doing work for remodeling contractors and that is where I have focused my business.

Bikeandy,

They have Angie's List in central ohio, but you have to have $$$ to be a part of it...and even more $$$ if you want to use your rating in your advertisements.

Angies List? What BS is this? I just went on, joined for free(SPECIAL THIS MONTH)under an asumed name I just made up!
And then I created a great report for work I did!
SO I'm now listed on Angies, I'll next have to go in and create bad reports for my competition.

They monitor this very close and can find if you are not a real customer. not only that but as a contractor who has a report writen about them you can make remarks. So if you were to write a bogus report about me I could reply and also report it to angies list and have it removed.

Not here in Indy, the people who join angies list usually have $$$ which is good for me, but as a contractor I can use anything said about me on angies list. They do have advertising in their little monthly news letter and that can be pricey but I don't advertise with them.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I don't advertise at all. All of my work is from referrals and a fairly consistent customer base. I have more work than I can handle at times.
