I have a question regarding advertising. Where do you advertise, and how much do you spend a month advertising?

Currently I advertise:

Phone books: Yellowbook, DEX, Christian Business Directory, Peak Power Pages
Networking: BNI.
Online: Craigslist, Google, Yahoo, My Website, Squidoo, Benspost, ServiceMagic, and other small places.
Leads services: BidClerk, Blue Book

I currently spend about $650 / month in advertising.

Would you guys do me a favor and visit my website and squidoo and tell me what you think?
Rip it apart... I want to know what I can be doing better.

Personally, I despise ServiceMagic. I just keep the account active so people can see my reviews.

Thanks,
Greg

-The company name over each page is annoying.
-Coupons on website are expired.
-Listing every job you did as "references" is... silly.

A picture is worth a thousand words. You're better off showing a "typical" service (BEFORE) upgrade and the completed photo. (AFTER)

I don't know about the laws in CO, but here in MA if you advertise your license number MUST be shown in everywhere your company name is shown.

I also wouldn't list a resume on the website. I would change and combine all of the skills it to a company profile that is not specific to past employers and only to experience.

No snap, your site did not draw me in.I think listing every aspect of what you do is a bit much try picking the top three things and list them and add pictures.

Hi GREG

I do not advertise so i don't know how qualified i am to help with the web page. But just a few things as stated before the cupons are expired. Also 50% off a full service upgrade sound fishy. If I were the customer I would be assumming your marking it up 60% and then dropping 50% or you'll find lots of change orders to make up the diffrence. Second the refferral list would be more effective if it were written by your customers not you.
Just my thoughts good luck. Hope it Helps.

Greg, I have agree with this. However I think it has been said many times on this forum that the best advertisement is word of mouth. Honesty, hard work and doing the best job for the best price will get more customers than any thing.

A few hours with a marketing specialist can help alot.Target your advertising to the markets you want to reach,if you are targeting homeowners placing adds on the teenage music radio station would not be a good idea but the easy listening or oldies station that targets your demographic can produce increased revenue. The more you advertise the faster you grow.

Your page !

Your page !

Well I had to browse down to see phone number ! and your Cell and E-mail is listed where ?
Make sure your page sits to a 15 " screen PERIOD!

The fonts... Which one did You like? Fonts, Fonts Or striaght up and various sizes, I don't know. You either have 5 sizes or five styles. I gave up guessing.

Frankly I'd drop the family owned and Move call for Free estimate into that mix... "change second, Line to "Swartz ELEc is Licensed and Insured"
no WE

It all seems right sided, Drop your 7 compartment to the bottom period or the top. Home is home, not about US ? (whats that mean)?

Your past projects and statements I assume you have a release to publish anything about your clients ? And your flip flopped colors between and underlining and Statements through the 7 item selection.
And your seem to use colors are black and white through out except on
"Contact Us", I already talked about the we now its Us ? !
We can only contact you "For new jobs"

I went to Squidoo and now your president of a family business ? ! :)

Frankly I drop the vertical Lighten, but thats more of a personal thing with me I hate background noise....

If you Keep the Left SIDE then fill it up with your other information
full name
mail address (well some Address) PO BOX, RT 10 ...
phone
Cell
Fax

Area with New Construction, What is Tenant Finish? You mean Tenant Upfits ? (Is that even right?) OR do You just mean an Addition

Low voltage mean Smart wiring ? OR do you do something special with the LV ?

Hope that helps...

Edit in "Make sure..."

Thank You for the information.
One note: The service upgrade is $50... not 50%.

I'd be keelhauled!

Thank You for the thorough review!

Thank You ... and ouch!

Thank You ... and ouch!

Thank You everyone for the thorough ripping.

I did ask for it, and I will start making changes.

I feel that if you people are telling me how you felt, others are feeling it and not choosing us.

Thanks for the input.

I'll post another thread in the future regarding the new and improved site.

Have the coupons ever been used?

Unfortunately, Yes.

I had other coupons up on the site. I find it difficult to maintain them.
I gave a price on a dryer outlet replacement, and they handed me a $25 coupon... even though it said on it that it wasn't valid for such a request.

I honored it anyway, to maintain customer... "happiness." I figured $25 wasn't worth fighting over, and my name is much more important.

General comment on coupons

General comment on coupons

Personally, I think having coupons on a website is just too much.

However, I have heard statistics that people will choose contractors with coupons more than contractors without coupons. What better place to put them.

I try to put coupons on that would be on larger ticket items.

You gotta figure that my contractors don't use the internet, and most businesses don't. All my commercial bids come from BidClerk or BlueBook.

So, I aim the website at residential business.

If I was going to try to use the knowledge that people choose contractors with coupons, I'd raise my price $50. and put coupons for $25. or raise my price across the board 10% and offer 5% off coupons.

I live in a small city and word of mouth is by far the best advertising. It will keep you busy or put you out of buisiness in a hurry.
