just a difference of oppion with an inspector.

in the bed room we have afci for the lights and receptacles.also for the window ac unit.and we also have the smoke detector on afci fed from another bed room which is also on afci.

the inspector presses the test button on the afci for the bed room lights and
receptacles, wants to know why is ac unit still has power and why smoke still has power. mentions when afci trips everything in bed room should be dead. i disagree, every circuit in bedroom is afci protecded.but not all on the same circuit!

You are right, sort of, I think. But I need to make sure I understand your configuration.

Look at it this way: Is there an electrical outlet in the bedroom? Yes? Than that outlet, and the entire circuit that feeds it, must have AFCI protection. Nothing prohibits you from feeding ten different outlets in a bedroom from ten different circuits, providing only that everything on those 10 circuits, no matter what room the other outlets are in, is protected by an AFCI device.

So if the entire circuit that supplies lights and receptacles has AFCI, and if the entire circuit that supplies the A/C unit has AFCI, and if the entire circuit that supplies the smoke detectors (and the other bedroom stuff) has AFCI, so that you have three circuits feeding outlets in this bedroom and all three have AFCI, you are code-compliant.

You can install as many circuits in a bedroom as you wish as long as they are all afci protected. There is nothing in the code nor is it even remotely reasonable to suggest anythng and everything in a single bedroom must be served by one afci circuit.
