Going off nec 2017 do finished basement ckts need to be afci/gfci protected?

From what I’ve found only unfinished portions of basements need it but I could be wrong on that..

2017 NEC, AFCI finished, probably. GFCI depends on the room.
Unfinished, GFCI, most likely.

Disagree with AFCI necessarily being required. Basement is not one of the rooms on the AFCI list. But finished implies some type of room. If its a giant bathroon, then no AFCI. If it has bedrooms, then yes for sure. Look at the room type list for where AFCI's are required. Any of the space in one of those, then it needs AFCI.

GFCI would most likely depend again on other things -- is there a kitchen counter there? Are there any sinks there? The general rule for basement GFCI's in 2017 was unfinished spaces only.

thx for the replies. Seeing that the 2020 nec will require both afci and gfci protection. Can that be achieved by a dual function receptacle with the first device on the circuit or does it have to be breaker style protection?

Yes, you can use a dual function device. But there are stipulations. By the time you get through them all, a dual function breaker is the way to go.
