In your opinion,is it permissable to install a multi-wire branch circuit to a bedroom, and using one conductor for the lighting, and the other conductor for the receptacles, and share the neutral?
I have yet to find a code to address this application.

Re: AFCI /Neutral

Yes, as long as you protect the circuit with a very expensive two pole AFCI breaker.

Re: AFCI /Neutral

linn,

There are two parts in the answer to your question.

The Code part. . .210.12(B) only talks about the circuits supplying outlets in the bedroom. If you want to do it with a multiwire homerun, that's your option. The Code doesn't specifically prohibit it. But that leads to:

The hardware part. . .An AFCI breaker monitors both the ungrounded conductor and the neutral conductor. For a multiwire homerun to be connected to AFCI protection and work, the AFCI must be a 120/240 Volt two pole breaker. That is, two single pole AFCIs can't share a neutral of a multiwire branch circuit and work.

Re: AFCI /Neutral

You may want to try 4 wire NM on 2 single pole AFCI's. If the terminals on the AFCI breaker was approved for two wires, would there still be a conflict with the grounded conductor???

Edited for spellinck.
