AFCI protection question

In reference to the 2008 NEC, do non-livable areas such as garages, patio's and floodlights need to have AFCI protection? If not, where can I find this in the NEC? Thank you, Chris

Look at 2008 NEC 210.12. It lists where AFCI protection is required, and is silent about where it is not required. Garages, patios and outside floodlights, as nothing is said about them, are not required to have AFCI per the 2008 NEC.
