AFCI receptical

Yes.
Leviton, had to install one two weeks ago.
Looks like an old GFCI because of its size.
The reset button is rather stiff, and you have to hold it in for a couple of seconds for it to reset.
The customer called and said that it tripped.
This one was at the beginning of the SABC serving the kitchen and the dining room.
Plugged into that curcuit was the fridge and an iPad charger.
I can live with one trip, if it was just a fluke.
The customer said, nothing else was plugged in or being used at the time -- no vacuum, no blender or anything else.
Had to instruct the customer to use the handle of a teaspoon to push the stiff reset button. :happyno:

Leviton was the first large manufacturer that came out with afci receptacles. P&S is suppose to be here but I have not seen them yet. Here is the leviton unit

I don't think P&S has them available yet. I do not see it on their site either.

I just called them and they said the target date is the end of October 2014- well see.

A quick follow-up..
Earlier today we meggered the circuit for a good measure, and it's fine.
Replaced the receptacle by customer's insistence with another one, but the reset button on it is just as stiff :(
He'll live with that for now, as long as it doesn't nuisance-trip again.
Have to presume that it was a nuisance trip, seeing as the fridge is nearly new, and its cord is intact and snug;
Same for the iPad charger.
Will report back with any news.

Has anyone actually seen/touched the infamous AFCI receptacle yet?
I've had the Leviton in stock on my truck since Nov. 2012 and have recently added the Eaton. Haven't installed many, but haven't had any issues with those.

OK, I guess it's like WR GFCI receptacles.....the big box stores will carry them before the supply houses do. My counter guy had never even heard of them. Maybe because we're still on the 2008 NEC and there's not as much call for them.

Thanks all.....he did ask me who makes them and he'd look into getting them.

We've had the AFCI receptacles at our HD for a few months now. Haven't had much interest in them, likely because most guys don't know they're out. Our Leviton rep was in this week and he said Leviton is the only manufacturer with AFCI receptacles currently on the market, said sales have been slow thus far. On a side note, they haven't been able to keep up on the demand for their (Double) receptacle and double usb device.

If you are using 2011 Code, refrigerator or a freezer in the kitchen is not required to be GFCI protected. In 2014 NEC it is required.

Circuit tests

Circuit tests

Is anyone aware of a plugin device to test for arc faults for a branch circuit that has no afci, breaker or yoke mount afci. Would be handy for indicating if faults may be present.

leviton mailed me one about two weeks ago for some unknown reason, i did not order it. looks just like a gfi. i assume that five years ago i took a class and they gave me a big 2foot decal saying i was a Licensed Leviton Installer. i guess they remembered me. i still have it and i also noticed just the other day that Home Depot started selling the AFCI breakers that attach to the automatically bonding breaker panels they just started selling too. but only had them in 15A, not 20 yet. happily, only $37 instead of $55 the supply house, who still doesnt have them, says they are going to cost.
