Would AFCI protection be required in a homes interior "craft workshop" made from a huge full height deadspace under the stairs.
NEC code version 2014

Also what if it was a closet or storage and turned into a "workshop"?

While your at it, the AFCI/GFCI combo breakers now are cheaper by $5-$10 than just either of the others. CH and QO anyway. ESP if that workshop suddenly sprouts a sink.

I’ve tossed in the towel, given up. Besides, 10% of $45 is more than 10% of $5.

I have seen that posted here before but that is definitely not the case in my area. DF are ~$10 more than AF from the supply houses or HD/Lowes the last time I checked. I have a pretty good pricing agreement with Square D but questioned my salesman about the price difference between the AF and DF breakers. He looked up the pricing for one of the largest residential shops (multi-family & track) in northern California and there breaker costs were slightly less that what I pay but the price increase of the DF was the same.

Maybe they charge me more for the AF vs DF because I buy so few. QO anyway. I may not get good pricing on CH either. Now I’ll have to check.
