Do they have accommodations to backstab ? If so then that method of wire connection would be acceptable.

PDF says side and rear terminations. Hopefully the rear terminations are held by a screw type clamp instead of a pressure spring clip.

At least they provide a good indication of reasons for using the switch, including when the first outlet (well to avoid arguments we will say the first device) on an existing branch is a switch.

From the description, I suspect that the unit has unswitched pass through protection (15A) as well as a switched output. But if that is the case it apparently does not interrupt the neutral the way a GFCI receptacle does OR there are more screw or back wired terminals than show up clearly in the pictures. I would like to see the instructions.
My guess is that it uses the EGC as a return wire to power the electronics. (One more step backwards....)

Very cool, and long over due. IMO this combination switch / AFCI and the blank face AFCI should have been part of the original product offering. The needs in remodel wiring are that obvious.
