Agriculture service

I'm replacing an existing 400 amp service on an agriculture building with a new 400 amp service and will be installing a Service Rated transfer switch and wiring to a 60 kw generator. My question is regarding the wire size i need to install at the service. I will be installing two 200 amp breaker disconnects next to my TF switch that will feed the existing panels. Can I use 4/0 aluminum or will I need 250mcm? I ask because all the ag buildings I've worked in used 4/0 for the service but I can't find where I would be allowed to by the NEC. Thanks

As long as your calculated load does not exceed the ampacity of the conductors, you are allowed to go up to the next standard breaker size. Read 240.4 and 240.4(B).
