Thanks for looking at my request.

I have a question concerning a horse arena with a living quarters built underneath a portion on the red iron structure.
The building that is the apartment has two sides backing up to the shed/ arena.This portion does have a fire rated wall .On the top of the apartment joists ,,,,the owner has only OSB nailed to the joist for storage.There will be sheetrock as the visible finished ceiling.

My question is ???How do I treat the storage area above the apartment?I have to run a 4 cond. supply to the main disc outside.I can drill and use a SER if need be.But, if it is permissible life would be easier to flex/ conduit or build a protected area for the SER cable.This job is under the TN. 2008 code .

IMO, unless the apartment is separated by a 4 hour fire wall, we will have to consider it one building. Due to the wording of Art 447, NM would not be allowed (even if it is allowed it in the apt, the presence of 'critters' would make is undesirable). Again, based on Art 447, NMC where practical (UF normally is also rated NMC). As far as the SE, it is acceptable (Cu), but my advice would be to sleeve it to prevent rodent damage, etc.
