Friends, Some time back...Mike had published a spread sheet that had plug
in spots to calculate what the AIC rating of a breaker should be, would any of you have that spread sheet or could create one and post the file with the reply to this post? What does AIC mean and the theory behind the calc's?
Thanks!
Lyle :)

AIC= Availble inrush current:)

HERE is a link to the free stuff page at Mike Holt's. Scroll down the page to the fault current calculator and you can download a free copy of the Excel spreadsheet.

AIC is one of the 3 things that we should look in sizing a circuit breaker. The other 2 things that we should look in sizing a circuit breaker are the continuos current rating and the voltage rating. There are a lot of available resources in the internet.

AIC is the ampere interrupting capacity. This is used in calculating short circuit currents. Proper AIC(kAIC) sizing would mean that the circuit breaker will clear the fault without causing injury to itself. Injury, i mean that the circuit breaker can still be used after clearing the fault and worst the breaker will not disentegrate/explode during the fault. Circuit breakers are placed in the system to function during abnormal electrical system condions (overcurrent - overloads, short circuit..)
