As we have a long multiple pipe run using alum conduit, does it present a problem using galvanized unistrut with cad plated clamps in terms of corrosion at the clamp and strut point
against the alum pipe? We have to use the galv strut as this is outdoors on brick, so there cannot be any rust stains.

You can use cad plates steel with a rubber cushion at the straps or you can use plastic (fiberglass) strut with plastic or fiberglass straps. Aiken Strut is onme of the manufactures.

Exfoliation 2 disimular metals react on each other.There has to be an inhibitor wether it be a barrier or a chemical.

although a good idea, where is this a code requirement?

See 342.14 and 344.14 for two sections that allow dissimilar metals with direct contact.

three wraps of duct tape around the pipe, under the clamp is what we've been using. Learned this from a local mechanical who said they've been doing this for years and never been turned down. They ran some copper outside with steel clamps and strut about 7 years ago at our facility and it still looks fine.

Duct Tape? :p

There would be no way I could do this and look the customer in the eye. :eek:

If you did this on one of my jobs you would'nt have to worry about looking me in the eye again.

When you consider the cost of a strut clamp with a insulator installed, duct tape sounds good.
Latest cost on a B-line clamp with insert is $15-
18 dollars EACH.BIG difference from 92 cents for a zinc plated clamp.B-line tells us that because alum and zinc are very close together on the galvanic chart there should be no problem.
The code allows alum and rigid steel to be together.

The cushion material is available on a roll. It is pricey but not 15.00 a strap. I think it is called vibra-cushion. It comes in like a 17' roll and you use the next size strap to allow for the cushion.
