Is there a reason contractor should not use AL conduits?

There are reasons to use it.

Lighter weight.
Corrosion resistant to some things that galv steel is not.

There are reasons not to use.

Cost.
A little bit of a learning curve if not used before.

If a customer wants it and it is appropriate no reason you can't use it.

If used on the output of a VFD or anything else that uses PWM (such as an on-line UPS, servo amplifier etc.), steel conduit shields about 95% of the EMI/RFI radiation from the conductors. Aluminum conduit, being non-magnetic, only shields about 5% so is not recommended for that application.

I never liked it. Hard to thread. Dies tear the threads. Never found a good cutting fluid. That was thirty yeas age. Maybe there are better fluids now.

I agree it stinks.. If your dies aren't really sharp you can actually warp the end your threading. I have seen some of it not come apart after years as Larry stated.

Didn't know about the shielding- thanks Jraef
